WELCOME
Thank you for your interest in volunteering within the Free Clinics of Iowa network! There are few things as rewarding as feeling truly helpful to another in need. When you volunteer with FCI, you make a difference!
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
Consider giving your time and talent to serve in the following roles
(please note that volunteer opportunities vary and not all roles listed are applicable to every free clinic)
Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
Active, unrestricted licensure in Iowa is required to provide basic primary care services to patients within the licensed scope of practice.
Greeters
Greet patients as they enter the clinic and guide them to the reception and/or waiting areas.
Receptionists
Gather basic information from patients as they enter the clinic and enter the information into the custom, web-based data system.
Interpreters
Provide assistance to those who do not speak fluent English.
Nurses (LPN, RN)
Active, unrestricted licensure in Iowa is required to facilitate patient intake information and assist in the provision of basic primary care services within the licensed scope of practice.
Helpers
Set up and take down helpers. Move items such as; tables, cabinets, chairs to set up a multipurpose area for free clinic services and take down for storage during non-clinic hours.
Allied Health Providers
Active, unrestricted licensure in Iowa is required to provide specialty health services to patients within the licensed scope of practice.
EMTs and Paramedics
Iowa certification is required to gather patient intake information and assist in the provision of basic primary care services within the certified/licensed scope of practice.
CNAs and CMAs
Iowa certification is required to gather patient intake information and assist in the provision of basic primary care services within the certified/licensed scope of practice.
Social Workers
Active, unrestricted licensure in Iowa is required to assist patients with community-based referrals addressing social, economic and\or physical determinants of health.
Health profession students striving to promote charitable service and enhance social awareness. They are encouraged to volunteer as member clinics have capacity/need within the academic institution's defined scope of service.

Health Profession Students
As most free clinics in Iowa are volunteer-based and provide services a few hours each week out of a community-based host site, volunteers are often asked to dedicate approximately 3-6 hours per month to free clinic service.
